The SureFire Helmet Light is a compact, lightweight, combination white/blue/infrared low-output light that attaches to the side of any TC 2000 Modular Integrated Communications Helmet (MICH Helmet).
The watertight unit uses a single 123A lithium battery and six light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to produce three different types of light at multiple power levels:
HL1-A-TN
- Primary light – three 5mm white-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Secondary light – two 5mm blue-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Tertiary IFF light – one 3mm infrared LED with continual blinking output
HL1-B-TN
- Primary light – three 5mm white-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Secondary light – two 5mm infrared LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Tertiary IFF light – one 3mm infrared LED with continual blinking output
HL1-C-TN
- Primary light – three 5mm white-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Secondary light – two 5mm red-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Tertiary IFF light – one 3mm infrared LED with continual blinking output
HL1-D-TN
- Primary light – three 5mm yellow-green-light LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Secondary light – two 5mm infrared LEDs with low, medium, high output levels
- Tertiary IFF light – one 3mm infrared LED with continual blinking output
Helmet Light attachment is by means of a special mount that is clamped semi-permanently to the left-side rim of the helmet by means of two socket-head machine screws. Once the mount is attached, the Helmet Light itself can be slid onto the mount, where it locks into place. Depressing a small lever allows it to slide off for servicing.
The Helmet Light is controlled by three separate switches. A three-position toggle switch operates as follows: up position turns on white primary lights; center position is off; down position turns on blue secondary lights. A momentary pressure switch cycles the primary and secondary lights (whichever is on) through the low, medium, and high output settings. If the primary or secondary lights are turned off, when next turned on they will be at their last output setting.
A two-position toggle switch operates the infrared IFF light independently of all other lights: up position is on, down position is off.
